Specify words that must appear in the search results by using the plus sign (+).

This will show essays with the word shakespeare and hamlet

Specify words that should not appear in the search results by using the minus sign (-).

This will show essays with the word shakespeare in it, but not hamlet

Specify a phrase by using double quotes (") around the phrase.

This will show essays with the phrase lord of the flies, rather than all essays with the words lord, of, the and flies.
Try this: Search for Lord of the Flies then search for "lord of the flies" (the links will do the searches). See how much more accurate the results are when we search for a phrase?
