Causes of divorce on family life

Written by: User

Although people in the modern society tend to plan carefully before marriage, the number of divorce cases is still increasing. The increase in divorce cases reflects the unhealthy trend of our society on marriage and engagement. The purpose of writing the essay is to analyse the causes of divorce on family life. Substantial increase of divorce occurs because of the change of roles of women, stress of modern living, and the lack of communication.

Firstly is the change of the roles of women in the modern society. The roles of women changed because the people in modern society become more open-minded and the equality between men and women are established. The change in viewing perspective of modern civilisation has recognised the contribution of women to the society. As a result, women are respected unlike in the past. As the equality of women and men are formed, women can also work and become a breadwinner outside the house. The husband can share some of the housework chores such as cooking and washing. Therefore, divorce can easily occur because women can now be independent from husband and can sustain their own cost of living.

Secondly is the stress of modern living. The stress of modern living is mainly caused by the high cost of living worsened by unemployment and the stress during working. High cost of living and unemployment rate may create a financial crisis in a family especially for those who so not practice proper financial management. Financial crisis can have a negative impact on the relationship between husband and wife. Stress on work such as mountains of assignments and condemnation by the employer can give a bad mood to a subordinate. The person may vent his anger onto his family members. This will cause tension and trauma among family members.

Thirdly is the lack of communication among spouses. The lack of communication is probably caused by busy spouses. Involvement in negative activities can create fissures in family relationship. For a family with working couples, they have to work almost every day, attending meetings, presentations, researches, and so on. This will reduce the time for the couples to stay and accompanying each other. Therefore, good understanding fails to establish between couples. If one of the partners indulges in negative activities like drug abuse and gambling, misunderstanding may occur and quarrels may result.

Finally, it is proposed that the divorce rate can be reduced by marital counselling and education. The three main causes of divorce which are lack of communication, stress of modern living, and the change of roles of women should be coped effectively to prevent long term negative impact on the minds of our future generation.
