  • For never was a story of more woe than that of Juliet and her Romeo

    Written by: James Wang

¡°For never was a story of more woe than that of Juliet and her Romeo¡± Would you agree?

Too many people die needlessly and there is too much hate. Only when loved ones die can those who hate see how stupid their hate was. In ¡°Romeo and Juliet¡±, the hate of the Montague and the Capulet brought needless death upon people. Only when their children died, they saw how stupid their hate was.

There is so much hating between the two feuding families, the Montague and the Capulet. The feud between the two families brought needlessly hate and death upon many people. They did not know each other and they did not know why they hate each other. The feud between the families brought chaos to the city of Verona and civilians. At the start of the play, the servants from the two families met on the street and started a brawl. When Tybalt, who was always itching for a fight, joined in, the peaceful streets of Verona soon turned into a battlefield of the two families. The anger of the Prince had been ignited by the two feuding families, and he threatens if the two families fight again, their lives will pay for the fight. It seems their problems will never be solved; the streets of Verona will continually be disturbed. It is certainly sad when people are full of hate and can not resolve their problems peacefully.

So many people died needlessly in this story. The death of Mercutio was one example. Mercutio is not related to the Montague not the Capulet, he was the Prince¡¯s kinsman, friend of Romeo. Death was brought upon him because of the feud of the two families. Tybalt who always hated peace and the Montague met Mercutio and Romeo on the street and tried to start a fight with Romeo. But Mercutio joined the fight and died during the fight. ¡°A plague on both your houses¡± he said before he died. If the two families hadn¡¯t been fighting, Mercutio would still be happily alive. Tybalt was also a casualty of the feud between the two families. Although he was from one of the families and he always itched for a fight, but if there wasn¡¯t a braw between the two families Tybalt wouldn¡¯t die either. It is indeed tragic that these young people die because of a senseless and meaningless feud.

Of course, the death of the young lovers, Romeo and Juliet, is in many ways the saddest of all. The two young lovers met at a ball held by the Capulet. Despite the fact they knew that their feuding families and will not allow them to get married, but they still truly love each other. The faithful Friar married them and hoped their love and marriage would have reconciled the two feuding families. But before the two families reconciled, new hate grows between them. Romeo killed during a fight in the city. Now hate between the two families could never be mended. Romeo was banished from Verona, Romeo and Juliet had been drawn further and further apart by the hate from the two families and Romeo¡¯s banishment. Juliet had to marry Paris, but she didn¡¯t want to. So she asked Friar Lawrence who gave her a vial. Juliet drank the vial and appeared to be dead next day. Romeo who was banished from Verona did know Friar Lawrence¡¯s plan; he thought Juliet was dead. In his sorrow, he drank poison and killed himself. Juliet killed her self too when she found out Romeo was dead. If the feud wasn¡¯t going on between the two families, the love between Romeo and Juliet would bring the two families together. However, the lovers ended in tragic. Only when their children are dead can the two families recognize how stupid they were to continue their senseless feud.

People died needlessly because of the stubbornness of the two families and the tragic death of the two young lovers is certainly a story of woe.
