Black Media: Fair but not.....Written by: yoshi Before I begin this little essay of sorts, just wanted to let y’all know that this isn’t going to be a grammar perfect, or language perfect essay. Hope you don’t mind, but basically this is me venting about all the frustration I have built up in me over the last 15 years. BET black entertainment, EBONY all black magazine, black colleges, black awards shows. This is starting to sound like “affirmative blacktion” to me. People may say that I sound racist, I don’t particularly like all sorts of black people, and I don’t like all sorts of white people either. I don’t mind having a conversation with a black person who is mature, and cares about how they look in front of other people. To be honest and perfectly blunt, I can tolerate, black people, I just don’t like gang banging thugs. I like white people; I just don’t like white trash. So I don’t think that I’m being racist there. Lets try this, say that I was a corp. exec for a big television company. I would like for there to be a WET white entertainment, but no, I couldn’t have that, why you ask? It’s racist is what the average person would tell you. What about an all white magazine, why not a magazine called whitey or something like that? The blacks out there, and the NAACP people would all say, you can’t do that, it’s racist. How is it racist? Somehow it wouldn’t be fair to the black community for us to have an all white network, or an all white magazine. Seems as though when I hear black people discuss black history month, they complain that they get the shortest month of the year to celebrate their culture…blah blah blah. I ask them well what about a white history month. The first thing they tell me is that every month other than February is white history month, so with that I’m assuming that all other networks, and magazines are all white? No! You see blacks, Asians, Mexicans and other types of people on regular TV, and in magazines. When you read EBONY or watch BET you don’t see white people in their magazines, or on the TV…not even Asians or Mexicans. They just want it all for themselves. All I’m asking for here is a little room for us the white people to try to have our own colleges, our own TV shows, our own magazines to celebrate our heritage. During the Olympic games back in the 70’s a black man threw his fist up wearing a black glove “black power” is what it was for. Nobody really gave to shits about that, but if a white person got up there and said WHITE POWER everyone would go nuts. Blacks get away with a lot of crap in this country and I think that if they get special treatment i.e. affirmative action, NAACP, TV magazines and their own awards shows. Where is the fairness come in. it is very unfair, and it will always be. Thank you for reading my essay.

First of all I'm "black" - lets make that clear, 2nd of all I'm not bashing your paper or making any objections to what you said, Id just like to make you understand a few things, so the next time you decide to express your opinion, you will have all the "facts" together. I rated your paper a 7, if you had all the facts together it would have been higher. Here, I'm gonna lay it all out for you - You say black people often say "Feb is the shorted month and its unfair that it was allocated to us as our history month." - True, that is heard time and time again, but ask yourself, why were they given the shortest month? Next, you say the BET has not "white, Hispanic, or Asian" people featured? Well, before we get any further -have you ever been on a show? Have you been in the CEO's office? BET is owned by "VIACOM" and who owns VIACOM? A "EURPOEAN AMERICAN". YOU do the research b4 you go throwing your emotions around next time. Most of the men who FILM these shows, are "WHITE". Then there is the idea that you say BET doesn't have any "other races". Apparently you don't watch "Oh Drama"? - daamn, Its a feminist show, but it touches all basis of society, from sexuality, race and religion. After those three thins, there really isn't much left to discuss. But trust me.... YOU people... (WHITE PEOPLE) are represented on a broader aspect than that of ANY MINORITY GROUP. As a matter of FACT, I live in CALIFORNIA, where the White folkz are damn near the MINORITY, but yet and still, they're making all the major decisions affecting everyone else... whats up with that? CALIFORNIA is predominately a Hispanic state, that’s not an opinion thats a FACT. Shouldn't there be more Spanish speaking events, telecasts and what have you? Okay, I'm going to sum this up for you.. I want you to think back to grammar school, then high school, and well - if you went through college as did I , I want you to think back there as well.... Tell me about the "MEN" you studied or what taught about on an in depth basis. C'mon now think hard... you learned a hell of alot about Dead White Men. You know it as well as I do, our education system is built around "DEAD WHITE MEN" - From Abe Lincoln, to Christopher Columbus and the list goes on. Its your "EDUCATIONAL" system who has the majority of people thinking that ABE LINCOLN" free'd blacks from SLAVERY. I ask you this, how the hell did he do that when he maintained his own slaves and didn't enforce the "no slave" laws? Also I ask you...naaaw, I'm going to INFORM you that that white people have OFTEN TIME AND TIME Again taken the CREDIT of black people. (and of other people too) - Did you know that your CITY, your "WASHINGTON D.C." was drawn up by a black man? Did you know that your Washington Monuments are all of AFRICAN ORIGIN? How about this, did you know the reflection pool in DC, where the "erect" tower stands.. (damn I can’t think of the name of it right now… my mind is running off in every direction) -But anyway, I’m sure you know what I’m referring too. Did you know that it signifies a black man’s penis? I know it sounds “crazy”, but my friend… I’m only offering you “FACTUAL” information. There ORIGINAL “tower” was built on the AFRICAN continent, long before WASHINGTON D.C., and it stood before a reflection pool, its significance was of the black mans penis. I could go on and on… but to think you are in WONDER as to why my people are upset that they have to have their history told in 28 days? Hell, we have your history for our whole educational experience… (for some of us that’s longer than others) Learning about the ROMANS, GREEKS and others. Every time your text books gives us a “FACT” it’s the “FACT” that your people discovered. How many times have you picked up one of your “TEXT” books and learned about black accomplishments? All this country knows about is “MARTIN LUTHER KING” – a great civil rights activist. Your people know of him because he was “peaceful” and in the eyes of many he “assimilated” your white culture. But chances are you haven’t heard of any of this information I just yielded to you. I’m going to leave you with this: “WHAT IF THERE WERE NO BLACK PEOPLE” *if you didn’t read anything ABOVE… please… READ THIS, and SEE WHY WE are UPSET that “our pages are left out of the HISTORY BOOKS!… See why we consider “history” to be exactly that… “HIS – STORY” Ask yourself….why didn’t you know much of this, after READING. What if there were no Black folks? This is a story told about a group of white people who were fed up with African Americans, so they joined together and wished themselves away. They passed through a deep dark tunnel and emerged in sort of a twilight zone where there is an America without black people. At first these white people breathed a sigh of relief. At last, they say, no more crime, drugs, violence and welfare. All of the blacks have gone!! Then suddenly, reality sets in. The "NEW AMERICA" is not America at all only a barren land. 1.) There are very few crops that have flourished because the nation was built on a slave-supported system. 2.) There are no cities with tall skyscrapers because Alexander Mils, a black man, invented the elevator, and without it one finds great difficulty reaching high floors. 3.) There are few if any cars because Richard Spikes, a black man, invented the automatic gear shift, Joseph Gammell, also black, invented the Super Charge System for Internal Combustion Engines, and Garrett A. Morgan invented the traffic signals. 4.) Furthermore, one could not use the rapid transit system because its precursor was the electric trolley, which was invented by another black man, Elbert R. Robinson. 5.) Even if there were streets on which cars and a rapid transit system could operate, they were cluttered with paper because an African American, Charles Brooks, invented the street sweeper. 6.) There were few if any newspapers, magazines and books because John Love invented the pencil sharpener, William Purvis invented the fountain pen, Lee Burridge invented the Type Writing Machine and W.A.Lovette invented the Advanced Printing Press. 7.) They were all, you guessed it, black. 8.) Even if Americans could write their letters, articles and books, they would not have been transported by mail because William Barry invented the Postmarking and Canceling Machine, William Purvis invented the Hand Stamp and Phillip Downing invented the Letter Drop. 9.) The lawns were brown and wilted because Joseph Smith invented the Lawn Sprinkler and John Burr the Lawn Mower. 10.) When they entered their homes, they found them to be poorly ventilated and poorly heated. You see, Frederick Jones invented the Air Conditioner and Alice Parker the Heating Furnace. Their homes were also dim. But of course, stupid, Lewis Latimer invented the Electric Lamp, Michael Harvey invented the Lantern and Granville T. Woods invented the Automatic Cut off Switch. Their homes were also filthy because Thomas W. Steward invented the Mop and Lloyd P. Ray, the Dust Pan. 11.) Their children met them at the door-barefooted, shabby, moldly and unkept. But what could one expect? Jan E. Matzelinger invented the Shoe Lasting Machine, Walter Sammons invented the Comb, Sarah Boone invented the Ironing Board and George T. Samon invented the Clothes Dryer. 12.) Finally, they were resigned to at least have dinner amidst all of this turmoil. But here again, the food had spoiled because another black man, John Standard invented the refrigerator. Now, ain't that a bitch? What would this world be like without the contributions of Black folks? 13.) Martin Luther King, Jr. said, "that by the time we leave for work we have been dependent on half the world-modern America is created by dependencies on the inventions from the minds of Black folks". 14.) Black history includes more than just slavery, Frederick Douglass, Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, Marcus Garvey and Dubois. Black history is American History and the History of America would not be so, without Black people so spread the knowledge. ---It even gets DEEEEPER than this, a lot deeper. We can talk about the EGYTIANS, and many others, and how they had advanced CALENDER systems before anyone else, we can talk about HOW we in the UNITED STATES study the “GREEKS AND ROMANS” --- (why those people documented that they STUDIED under those in what is today called EGYPT. How is it that AMERICA pays homage to the GREEKS and ROMANS, but it is they who pay a great deal of respect to the “EGYPTIANS”? When will AMERICAN WAKE THE FUCK UP and SEE, that most of what’s around them, came from AFRICA? *Just a few thoughts….and wisdom worth sharing. Don’t think I was “picking on you”, and I’m sorry if I came off arrogant or frustrated…. After all, put your self in my shoes…. Would you be? | |

| White people can have anything they want...and u want to complain about what black people have...You might want to think again...Black People are way behind compared to whites....We are trying to build our own so we don't have to depend on others...but it's people like you who will never understand the struggle....You will never know what it is to be black....I am a very intelligent Black Female and I could hold a conversation with a genius....DON'T TRY TO SINGLE MY PEOPLE OUT....YOU WILL BE PUT ON BLAST...Now I guess you have something to say about the way I talk huh?
