CLASSIFICATION: The Argentine Horned Frog comes from the Leptodactylidae kingdom. Some of it’s closest relatives include the Budgett, Amazonian, and Chacoan Horned Frogs.

HABITAT: The Argentine Horned Frog is found in South America, specifically Argentina, Southern Brazil, and Uruguay. It inhabits the very warm, moist floors of the rainforest.

ADAPTATIONS: A full grown male frog will generally grow to reach 10cm, length & width. However, a full grown female can grow to be a whopping 12cm, slightly bigger than a male. Essentially, these frogs are half mouth and half stomach, with four tiny legs. They also have strong, sharp jaws and a wide tongue, which is essential for catching and eating prey. The coloring of horned frog varies, but they are generally green with dark markings, sometimes even containing red or yellow markings. This coloration provides excellent camouflage in the leaf litter of the forest floor which they live in. Males will usually develop black markings under their mouth (sort of a beard).

DIET: Juvenile frogs usually eat only small insects (such as crickets), and worms. However, the adult frogs usually eat small insects, worms, fish, and even mice.
