Marijuana (also called mary-jane, pot, grass, weed, doobey and reefer) is the most commonly used illegal street drug in North America. Marijuana is a depressant. It is one of the cheapest illegal drugs in the world. It is also one of the easiest drugs to get. Because of this it is one of the most dangerous drugs. Almost anyone can get this drug even though it is illegal.

Marijuana is grown from the cannabis plant. The cannabis plant was cultivated for it’s tough stem fibers prior to the advent of synthetic fibers. Most often the leaves and the flowering tops of the plant are dried and rolled into "joints". Then joins are usually smoked. Marijuana contains toxins that are believed to cause cancer. Marijuana users usually experience the same health problems as tobacco users (bronchitis, emphysema and bronchial asthma). Marijuana increases your heart rate, makes your mouth feel dry, impairs motor skills, reddens eyes and slurs your speech. Sometimes the user experiences hallucinations, fantasies and paranoia. Using marijuana gives you a greater chance of doing other more serious illegal drugs, such as cocaine and heroin.

Marijuana is sometimes grown in peoples basements, closets or any other place where no one can find it. People will try to smuggle it into a country so they can sell it. They will try anything so that police won’t catch them. It is usually transported in 1 kg bricks. These bricks are compressed of marijuana. Some people even put some in a condom and seal it off, then swallow it. Then they get it back when they go to the bathroom (these are called "poopers").

Marijuana is quite a bit of money to be spending. But, the financial cost is not the worst kind of cost. Marijuana will cost you a lot more than just money. It can cost you your job, your family and even some friends. You can also die from using marijuana. Marijuana is also illegal, so it can get you into legal trouble. It also costs society millions of dollars to keep care of users and to try and help them.

Marijuana is one of the most dangerous drugs in the world. It is a mystery why people will jeopardize their life just to fit in or be "cool". It will cost you a lot of things, but eventually it will cost you your life.
